According to Hon. Alhassan Sayibu Suhiyini, Ghana was not proactive enough to appropriately evacuate its citizens, especially students, from the Ukraine War.

On a morning show in Accra, the MP for Tamale North indicated that, he disagrees with the fact that Ghana did not see the war in Ukraine coming. Thus, it was difficult for Ghana to anticipate that there was going to be a war in Ukraine therefore, a need to appropriately take the necessary steps to evacuate its citizens.

The host of the show indicated that, the war took everyone by surprise. Hon. Alhassan verbally indicated a disagreement with the statement.

He said, as at the 11th of February to the 12th of February, nations were asking their citizens in Ukraine to leave since they were anticipating a war. This indicates that, these nations were being proactive in the evacuation strategy of their citizens. Ghana was not able to proactively do this. Therefore, Ghana was one of the few nations that were taken by surprise.

To him, our approach as a country towards the evacuation of citizens was not as effective as that of proactive nations. A situation such as this indicates that, Ghana cannot be appropriately classified as part of a proactive nation. However, he recommended active citizens who raised their voices to influence measures for evacuation from the Ghanaian government.
