No SIM card Will Be Blocked – Sam George Assures Stubborn Academy

Member of parliament for Ningo-Prampram, Sam Nartey George, has promised Ghanaians that their SIM cards will not be blocked if they are unable to re-register them by the deadline. Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, the Minister for Communication and Digitalization, has set September 30, 2022 as the deadline for SIM card re-registration. The original deadline was July 31, 2022, however it has been pushed back to September 30.

According to the minister, delays in the launch of a self-service registration software and the acquisition of Ghana Cards, which are required for registration, prompted the extension. "After consulting the industry and considering the aforementioned obstacles, I have regrettably decided to give a final conditional extension.

"The program will be extended until September 30 in order to conclude on the one-year anniversary of its inception. This will enable us one full year to evaluate SIM registration at the end of this month, and any SIM that has not been fully registered by the end of August would be denied access to certain services, such as phone and data services. Using unregistered SIMs will also incur additional costs. "An additional press conference will be held in September to outline the complete spectrum of disciplinary measures," the minister indicated.

The National Communication Authority maintained the original deadline for the activity by announcing that all SIM cards not registered by September 30 would be rendered inoperable. Sam Nartey George tweeted on September 30 that unregistered SIM cards will not be prohibited after this coming Friday. "I am one hundred percent positive that NO SIM card will be blocked tomorrow! "This is a victory for the Ghanaian people who have been awaiting the NIA's production of their Ghana Cards. For God and Country," read portions of the tweet the representative shared.
