As part of the fight against corruption, the Nana Akufo Addo led government through a constitutional instrument has established an independent office of the Special Prosecutor. As we all know, Martin Amidu being the first person to man the office has resigned. This has called for the need to appoint a new person into the office.
Recently, Lawyer Kissi Agyebeng has been nominated to occupy the vacant office. There has been a lot of concerns regarding when Parliament will vet the new nominee to confirm his appointment. The Majority leader doubling as the Minister for Parliamentary Affairs, Hon Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu has given the update concerning the nominee’s vetting.
According to Hon Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu, the appointments committee has begun the background checks on Kissi Agyebeng (Esq). Some members of the house like Haruna Iddrisu has doubted the competence of the nominee.
However according to Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, the background checks of Kissi Agyebeng will reveal his competence, qualification and legibility to man the office. Hon Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu further indicated that, it is not for him to establish the date for the background checks or vetting but for the appointments committee.
