Stop the greed and selfishness- Public office holders told

Corruption has been a huge issue of major concern in Ghana and Africa as a whole. Corruption has deprived many of their livelihoods and poses a serious threat to human existence.

Efforts have been made by the current government in Ghana and the previous administrations in Ghana to reduce corruption to its barest minimum.

Anti - corruption institutions have been set up to augment the efforts by the already established constitutional bodies to achieve the aforementioned aim.

Nana Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo, upon assumption of duty has established the Office of the Special Prosecutor to help curb the trend of corruption in the Republic of Ghana.

People who find themselves in the public service have been told to put the collective good at the heart of the thinking and every step they take - they should expell selfishness and embrace selflessness.

The Out-going Kumasi Metropolitan Chief Executive, Osei Assibey-Antwi, said it should not be about personal comfort and convenience but the overall and supreme interest of the Ghanaian people.

This was how to build a functional society that worked for everybody but not a few fellows who finds comfort within the corridors of power.

He was speaking at a ceremony held to recognize two gallant and solid guards of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly for their distinctive and honourable service to the assembly.

Constable Abena Adutwumwaa and Anthony Gundad, were each presented with a refrigerator, television set and an undisclosed amount of money.

Mr Assibey-Antwi praised the pair for their integrity, high sense of discipline and dedication to duty.

Mr Osei Assibey-Antwi is the immediate past Metropolitan Chief Executive of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly and the newly appointed Boss of the National Service Secretariat.

He had wished to be retained as the Kumasi Mayor. This is evident in a conflict between him and Mr Thomas Kusi Boafo who had wanted to take his place as the MCE for the Kumasi Metropolis.
