One of the hottest trending news is a Cape Coast High Court’s decision to quash the 2020 Parliamentary results of the Assin North Constituency. The court fined the deposed NDC MP, James Quayson of 30,000 cedis and also fined the Electoral Commission 10, 000. This means that there will be a by election in the Assin North constituency.
More incriminating is the decision of the petitioner to also charge the MP for perjury and has begun filing processes to start the trial of the MP. This afternoon, Wednesday, July 28, 2021, Nana Boakye, popularly called Nana B, a member of the NPP communications team joined Osei Bonsu to discuss what the ruling means and matter arising.
OB was of the view that there was a similar case (Zanetor case) and the judge could have applied the same ruling on this case and not necessarily quash the Parliamentary results. According to Nana B, the case from the earlier case was about eligibility and qualification.
“OB, don’t talk like an NDC. They are not the same case. Stop making that point. He knew the consequences before filing his application. He signed that he was a Ghanaian at the primaries and so he was to abide by it. It is clear that the NDC were trying to delay the case. They delayed in coming to court today. Adawudu run from the case. Even Edudzi Tamakloe their head of legal counsel run from the case. Another lawyer came in and now see what has happened” Nana B explained.
Nana B was B maintained that the perjury case against the MP will start soon. He also charged the NDC to go to the Supreme Court if they disagree with the ruling given today. it will be interesting to see what happens next as the NDC Communications Officer, Sammy Gyamfi has said that they will appeal a stay of execution of the ruling of the High Court and appeal at the Supreme Court.
