Mother of Vice President Mahamud Bawumia Buried

Hajia Mariama, Mother of the Vice President, Dr. Mahamud Bawumia, has been laid to rest at her hometown of Walewale in the Northeast region. The solemn ceremony saw hundreds of mourners including Ministers of state, Members of Parliament, Religious Leaders, Political party representatives, Chiefs and religious leaders turnout to pay their last respect to the woman whose son has risen to become the second gentleman of the land. 

In accordance with Islamic tradition, the National Chief Imam, Sheikh Osman Nuhu Sharubutu, led a congregation of Muslim faithful for the funeral prayer known as the Janazah for the deceased before the body was conveyed into the forecourt of the family residence and buried beside her late husband, Alhaji Mumuni Bawumia, who died two decades ago. In a post-interment event, the Chief Imam prayed for peaceful rest of the soul of Hajia Mariam and for Allah to overlook her shortcomings and admit her into the ultimate abode of Jannah.

Hajia Mariama passed on peacefully during the early hours of Monday[September 13] in Accra. She was married to the late politician Alhaji Mumuni Bawumia with whom she bore five children including the Vice President.
