It Will Be A Walkover For NDC If NPP Presents Dr. Bawumia In 2024 Election (Opinion)

The 2024 Election will be one of the most interesting elections to ever happened in Ghana. It will be interesting because of the Candidates who might be contesting. According to rumours, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia will be contesting for the NPP Flagbearership and if he wins will be the Presidential Candidate for the NPP.

According to my opinion, if Dr Mahamudu Bawumia becomes the Presidential Candidate for the NPP, the NDC will win the 2024 election irrespective of the candidate (John Mahama or Kwabena Duffour) they field in the election. I have tabled two reasons I think the NDC will be victorious if Veep Bawumia lead the NPP.

1. Alan Factor

According to rumours, Minister of Trade and Industry of Ghana, Alan Kojo Kyeremateng is also eyeing the Flagbearership position. His supporters may hold a grudge against the party and may not support the party if he lose and that can make the NDC a stronger side. In the book titled "Chasing the Elephant into the Bush: The Politics of Complacency" the author, Dr Arthur Kennedy revealed how the NPP lost in the 2008 election. According to him, they lost because of the Flagbearership race, he stated that it broke the party into two and the unity in the party was lost. This history is likely to repeat itself and if it does, the NDC will be in a better position to win.

2. The 8 years Election Cycle "Curse"

In Ghana, no political party has ever been in power for more than 8 years. There have been change of parties in every 8 years and I think in 2024 election, same thing could happen. When this happen, the biggest opposition party, the NDC will be winning the election.

This is my opinion, what do you also think? Let me know what you think in the comment section.
