His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo-Addo the President of the Republic promised to build 88 hospitals for 88 districts across the country in April 2020. He later made a change and noted that 13 districts will also benefit from the Agenda 111 initiative. In all, the president noted that 101 districts are going to have an ultramodern hospital in their district.
This initiative by the government has really delayed for over a year now. This made the opposition party and some Ghanaians noted that the Agenda 111 is one of the lies of the NPP government. The pressure that Government received for delaying the construction of these hospitals was indeed very much. Some too noted the president said this to canvas for votes in the 2020 election. The president in his recent tour to the Bono Region noted that he will be cutting sods for the construction of these hospitals.
In a press briefing by the Ministry of Information today, the minister of information has given more details on the construction of these hospitals. He explained that an amount of $100 has been made ready for the commencement of the projects. According to him, each hospital will cost approximately $17 and it will be funded by Government of Ghana.
"The Akufo-Addo Administration's Agenda 111, which aims to provide the 101 outstanding districts with hospitals commences on Tuesday, August 17th, 2021. The project will also see to the provision of two specialized hospitals for the middle and northern belt, the redevelopment of the Accra psychiatrist hospital plus the development and six new regional hospitals and one extra regional hospital for the Western Region". He said.
