According to Johnson Asiedu Nketia, the General Secretary of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Ghana's Finance Minister should not be allowed to lead a delegation to propose a package for Ghana.
He asserted that the Finance Minister has exhausted all of his options for negotiating a favorable agreement for Ghana, given the damage he has done to the country's economy as a result of his failed initiatives.
At the same time, Asiedu Nketia lashed out at the Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, for leading the economic management team and driving Ghana into the IMF.
Such people, he says, would let Ghana down once more when it comes to bargaining with the IMF for a better deal.
"In the current state of affairs, the country's finances will need a new set of hands to keep them in order and keep the economy afloat.
"Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, vice president and chairman of the Economic Management team, appears exhausted and fragile to even come up with new ideas for the economy. In light of President Obama's decision to approach the IMF, the country needs a more resolute team to handle the economy and negotiate a deal with the IMF in order to get a financial bailout for the country "He made a veiled allusion to it.
When he was interviewed on Okay FM's "Ade Akye Abi," he said that during the coronavirus outbreak the World Bank and other institutions gave Ghana large sums of money. He claimed that the funds were misused by the government without sufficient oversight.
When the Covid-19 pandemic struck, the World Bank and other generous institutions provided substantial assistance to Ghana. It is therefore absurd to hear people claim that the Covid-19 outbreak and the Ukraine-Russia war are to blame for Ghana's economic woes.
"That person may "defend Satan in Heaven" by using this bizarre analysis to defend NPP's decision to approach the IMF for assistance.
