I Am Worried About The Posture Of The Agriculture Minister-Berla Mundi

Governments come and go but the economic difficulties remain same for majority of the citizenry.

One particular area that is always getting more difficult, has to do with prices of commodities, fuel, accommodation, etc.

Today on the Newday show on TV3, host of the show, Berla Mundi made an interesting personal observation and followers of the show were pleased for her boldness and honesty.

Berla Mumdi’s observation was about the Minister of Food and Agriculture, Owusu Afriyie Akoto.

In recent days, there has been discussions of the high cost and increment in the prices of food commodities, in most markets in the country. As a result, the government has come under some level of criticism for failing to avert such a burden as envisaged with the “planting for food and jobs” initiative.

The Minister has come to debunk claims and price increments in food commodities indicating that, data available to the Ministry does not reflect what is being claimed out there.

This is not the first time the Minister has come out to debunk claims of price increment.

It would be recalled that, somewhere in 2020, there were “cries” of price increments in food commodities but the Minister came out to debunk it and claimed at the time that a bunch of plantain was sold for 4 cedis.

Commenting on the current price hikes and claims by the Agric Minister, Berla Mundi said;

”I’m just a little worried about the Agric Minister’s posture when it comes to the conversation about the food prices and the fact that he says that, it’s tumbling so the price keep coming down but then, we had been warned by some groups in the sector that this was going to happen and the same Minister questioned the group’s legitimacy” she said among others.

She indicated that the reality on the ground is different from what the Minister says and proceeded to play videos of some market women confirming the price hikes. They accused the minister of not being truthful with the issue of prices in the markets.

Some commodities have had their prices increased more than 100%.
