NPP Will Not Have 137 MPs In Parliament In The Next 2 Weeks - Kwesi Pratt Says

The impasse in Parliament is growing as the majority and Minority groups in Parliament continues to debate over the procedures leading to the approval of the budget. The stalemate came after the majority group led by Honourable Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu approved the 2022 fiscal year budget in the absence of the NDC MPs after it was initially declared rejected by the speaker of Parliament.

According to the statement from the leader of the Minority Caucus, Honourable Haruna Iddrisu, his team would continue to fight the battle to get the decision overturned. He believes strongly that, the decision taken by the Majority has undermined the integrity of the Chamber and would be fiercely fought.

Earlier today, December 2, 2021, outspoken Journalist and Managing Editor of the Insight Newspaper, Mr. Kwesi Pratt made a very bold statement concerning the happenings in Parliament. He made this statement when speaking in an interview on Good Morning Africa show on Pan African TV.

In what he [Kwesi Pratt] described as a disappointment, he registered his resentment over how Parliament has been operating over the past months. He indicated that, Parliament should change its mode of operations since the country is operating a hung Parliament which is far different from majority rule.

Reacting to the decision made by the Member of Parliament for Bekwai Municipality, Kwesi Pratt failed to comprehend how an acting Speaker could go to the extent of overturning a decision that has been made by the legitimate elected Speaker. He stated that, the chamber disrespected Alban Bagbin over the decision.

Speaking further, he indicated that the only best measure to restore calm in the chamber is through consultation and consensus. He stated categorically that unnecessary compromise and argument would yield the country nothing but chaos. He said, "I get so worried over what is happening over there. I'm sitting here and all I can do is to offer some advice. Unnecessary debate will not help us at all. Let's adopt a good ways to run Parliament."

He added, "I have done my calculations and it's very interesting. NPP will not have 137 MPs in parliament in the next 2 weeks. Now, with this if there is a decision to make how are they going to make it. That means, Parliament can only work with good understanding between the members."
