The Chairman of the Business Committee this morning presented the Business Paper to the House this morning. It was full of motions to be debated as well as questions to be answered by ministers. Deputy Majority leader and Chairman of the Business Committee indicated that all those who are expected to answer questions should not absent themselves.
After the presentation, the floor was opened to question and answers. Hon. Kofi Boah, MP for Nzema Ellembele queried why there is still no mention of when the State of The Nation Address in the Business Paper for next week. He bemoaned the delays and called on the Deputy Majority Leader to explain why President Akufo-Addo is yet to appear before the House.
According to Afenyo Markin, Kofi Boah did not invoke any law that said the President should present SONA in the first quarter of the year. “Mr. President is ready to come. It is for leadership and Mr. Speaker to programme the President to come. Mr. Speaker is absent.” Afenyo Markin said.
The Minority side than indicated to Afenyo Markin that Joe Wise is the speaker so can summon President Akufo-Addo to present SONA. Afenyo Markin then replied that Joe Wise, the First Deputy is just a Speaker and not the Speaker. He noted that only the speaker can schedule the president to appear before the house. It is yet to be seen when SONA 2022 will be presented.
