A few months ago, the President traveled to the UK for a global education summit and subsequently to Germany. This travel stirred some controversies in the various media as the Member of Parliament for North Tongue, Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa made an interesting revelation about how much the President's journey has caused Ghanaians. The President's spokesperson, Eugene Arhin, denied this allegation made by the North Tongu MP as he stated in a news item published on Joynews on 7th September 2021 where he explained that he journeyed with the president and the luxurious aircraft that was alleged to be hired for the journey was not the aircraft used by the President.
Fast forward, the President of Ghana, Nana Akufo-Addo, has made a recent trip to the USA on the 18th of September 2021. This time too, Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has revealed that the President has traveled with the same luxurious aircraft that could cost the Ghanaian taxpayer 3.7 million Ghana Cedis by the time the President returns to Ghana as the aircraft is being charged US$14,000 per hour for 44 hours. In a lengthy post made on facebook by the honorable MP, he condemned the president's relentless choice of luxury over the major problems the country is facing. "I can authoritatively confirm without a scintilla of doubt or any equivocation for that matter that President Akufo-Addo on his current trip to the United State of America has again chartered the same ultra-luxury aircraft he used to the UK and Germany". In the write-up, the honorable MP provided the details of the aircraft in question, the routes the President used, the stops they made, and other relevant information to prove his point.
He also revealed that whilst the President is on his luxurious sponsored trip, the Presidential jet for Ghana was hired by the Liberian President, George Weah. This just shows that others have more confidence in Ghana's presidential jet than our very own President.
