Chairman Wontumi Openly Supports Dr. Bawumia:NPP Belongs To You And You Want Him:Who Am I To Oppose?

There is a popular adage that the greatest thing that you can give a man is a compliment. It is not surprising that the Ashanti Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, also known as Chairman Wontumi has made some wild declarations about the suitability and higher winning chances of the candidature of Vice President Dr Bawumia.

At the commissioning of a six-unit classroom block at Effiduase Asokore, the regional Chairman openly expressed his support for Dr.Bawumia as NPP 2024 flagbearer.

According to Chairman Wontumi, who spoke to some party Footsoldiers and constituency executives, the NPP Belongs to those at the grassroots. He opined that since the constituency executives ,Footsoldiers or other party faithfuls want Dr. Bawumia, he as a regional Chairman can not oppose what they want. In his famous question, Chairman Wontumi asked 'Who Am I'?

Readers can recall how NPP's National Delegates' Conference resulted in the defeat of the former General Secretary John Boadu. It can be recalled how Chairman Wontumi had campaigned vehemently to secure a victory for the man but he eventually lost to Justin Frimpong Kodua. Readers can vividly recall how NPP MP Kennedy Agyapong bashed Chairman Wontumi for his open support for John Boadu and how that affected JB's chances.

It is believed that the NPP would start open campaign exercises after the party announces that campaigns can begin after the filing of nominations. What is not clear is whether or not the political process for the flagbearership position of the party has already commenced. Are there sanctions in place when the set rules are flouted?

In the words of a late politician, Sir John, candidates ought to 'fear delegates'. This has been modified by John Boadu and he also indicated that candidates ought to 'respect Delegates'.

Can the endorsement provided by Chairman Wontumi do a significant impact on the fortunes of Dr. Bawumia if he finally contests for the NPP flagbearership position?

Do you think that Dr. Bawumia stands a greater chance to help NPP break the eight years?

What do you make of open endorsements made by party big wigs?

What are your thoughts on the ongoing discussion?
