Food Prices are Very Low in Ghana at the Detriment of Farmers – President Mahama

On September 19, 2020 the chiefs and people of Kintampo North welcomed Former President Mahama at the PTC park in the community. This encounter started late night of September 18, 2020 and crossed over to the next day. 

The purpose of his visit was to commission a cassava flour factory owned by MP of Kintampo North constituency Honourable Stephen Kunsu. This factory uses cassava to produce high quality flour for further productive purposes.

He also used the occasion to highlight some key points in their 2020 manifesto. 

He narrated his encounter with a yam seller at Abease community. He stated that the young man was holding a big yam that cost GH1. He felt pity for the seller after long toil in a cultivation process. 

He stated that during his administration, farmers used to hire Kia Rhino to transport their yams to the market for sale. They sometimes buy motorbikes to their villages after a good sales. 

However, Former President Mahama asserted that prices of food stuffs are very low at the detriment of farmers. According to him, farmers find it difficult to get transport fare after selling their product in the market. 

He said that

“If you don’t take care, you won’t even get transport fare to get back home after selling your farm products”

He stated that, it is the desire of every government to ensure low foodstuff prices but farmers should benefit from their toil as well. He promised to fix the market failure for the benefit of all when elected in to government.
