Over the years, allegations have been made against assembly members of the various district assemblies in the country of how they take monies from MMDCE nominees before confirming the District Chief Executives appointed by the president.
Even though the allegations have since been denied by some assembly members, it is appearing that behind the scenes, monies are taken. A member of the Shama District Assembly, Mr. Joseph Isaiah Mensah has made a huge allegations against his colleagues for taking an amount of GHC 2,500 each and still voted against the government nominee for the area.
Speaking in an interview with Skyy Power FM in Takoradi monitored by BeaNana, the Shama Atifi Assembly member emphatically indicated that the DCE Nominee, Ebenezer Dadzie, before the election on Tuesday met some assembly members and pleaded with them to vote for him. The Assembly members involved took the money and pledged to vote for him but on the day of election, surprises were made.
Out of the twenty five members of the Shama District Assembly, the president’s DCE Nominee secured 12 votes whilst eleven members voted against him. Two of the votes were invalid. Some assembly members who are close allies of the DCE nominee are angry about the development because they were optimistic of a one touch victory.
Unfortunately, the same assembly members who took the GHC 2,500 and voted against the nominee, Ebenezer Dadzie. The presiding member for the Shama District Assembly, Mr. Mark Ackon has since denied the allegation made by his colleague and indicated that none of the assembly members took money. The situation has created a lot of confusion in the Shama District Assembly. Some members are currently angry about the allegation and indicated that they will vote against the nominee if they should present him in the next ten days.
The Shama Constituency of the New Patriotic Party has been divided into two factions. One faction is with the former Member of Parliament, Mr. Ato Panford whilst the other faction belongs to the new Member of Parliament, Lawyer Erickson Abakah.
