What a bitter world we live in. Just when we thought we have heard it all, another mind-blowing news hit us hard again.
An unknown step-mother has gone all out to poison her step-daughter who had 9 A’s in the recently released West African Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (WASSCE). The daughter also had the scholarship to study abroad.
Unfortunately, this bitter woman couldn’t contain her jealousy and has thus poisoned the innocent girl who is about to have a blast of her life.
Chidera is the name of the 16yr old girl who completed Amakpoke Umuaku Isuochi of Abia State in Nigeria. Chidera, unfortunately, couldn’t survive the poison.
This enigma between step-mothers and step-daughters remains a mystery in our local African settings. Most step-mothers mistreat their step-children. Some always pursue goodies for their own children and relegate that of the step-children. When there is damage or work undone in the house, the step-children are in trouble.
This act shouldn’t be tolerated anymore. Chidera could have become the next economic strategist for Nigeria or the United Kingdom. She could have become a minister of God or have an orphanage home to take care of the needy, considering things she might have been exposed to by her step-mother.
But jealousy and bitterness have taken her dreams and aspirations away. Such a brilliant soul.
It is about time this conversation become primitive in our societies.
