Akufo-Addo Must Value Our Tears Else He Should Forget About Winning Election 2020 (Opinion)

Mother Ghana is in pain but who will listen to her and value her tears? Since the outbreak of this novel coronavirus which has been killing masses in Europe, America and other places, Ghana has never known no peace since the effect of this virus has negatively impacted this country too. The coronavirus has drained the economy of its resources and taken the lives of our loved ones to the graveyard as well.

The Akufo-Addo led government has taken cogent measures for every Tom, Dick and Harry in this country to adhere to so as to contain the wide spread of this deadly virus. Some of these measures include, but not limited to the wearing of nose masks, use of hand sanitizer and social distancing among others. However, I can confidently tell you that the coronavirus is no respecter of persons as it even creeps into the offices of our leaders in this country. We are still fighting against this disease, yet our efforts seem to prove futile.

During the 12th nation's address on COVID-19 cases in Ghana, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo re-opened schools for final year students in the second cycle institutions and the Junior High Schools to write their exams. Though he outlined various preventive measures that would be in place to protect the lives of our dear ones from contracting this virus, the virus has still made its way to distort the academic calendar of the year.

In fact, parents of final year students who have been released to write the West Africa Senior School Certificate Examination and the Basic Education Certification Examination are crying bitterly for the lives of their dear wards in the schools and Akufo-Addo must value our tears, else he should forget about winning election 2020. Coronavirus has engulfed some senior high schools like the Accra Girls Senior High School, Mpraeso Senior High School, etc.

Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo-Addo must know that a lot a these students form majority of Ghanaian voters. If the lives of these students are at the peril of COVID-19, how will they be able to write their exams, let alone casting their votes in the upcoming December elections? Parents are becoming disappointed in the NPP-Akufo-Addo led government for not valuing their tears in evacuating their wards from the schools.

Election is an inch closer to our doorsteps and if Akufo-Addo really wants to regain power, he must value ours tears, else he should forget about winning the 2020 elections. Our lives matter more than an election.
