It's just close to a year now since the 2020 elections came to an end, but confusion has started sparking in the country.
The current Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), is Bernard Antwi Boasiako (Chairman Wontumi). He made speculations that "Mr Mahama is the weakest link in the NDC party and right now his political career is on life support". From his view, the 2024 elections will be also considered as "a winning election for the New Patriotic Party (NPP)", if Ex-president John Mahama stands again as the presidential candidate for the NDC.
Additionally, Chairman Wontumi said that John Mahama's appearance on the 2024 ballot paper will make the NPP win easily. "Even if I'm left with just one Cedi in my purse, I will use it to sponsor John Mahama", he said.
Meanwhile, Mr Bernard Antwi Boasiako described Mr Mahama’s tour in the region as ‘A Disgrace Tour’ instead of a 'Thank You Tour'. He also said this because after he lost the polls, he’s yet to come to terms with reality hence his tour is much ado about nothing.
He later made everything clear saying “Mr Mahama’s tour is nothing but a way to ensure the NDC presents him as flagbearer in 2024. But for me, it will be good for the NPP because Mr Mahama has been tried and tested, and we know he’s a failure. So I will use my money to sponsor Mahama to win the flagbearership race, so he can lead NDC into another landmark failure come 2024”.
Climaxing the discussion on the morning show, there was a hot argument between both regional chairpersons for NDC and NPP, as each party wanted to conquer his opponent in terms of the development and implementation of good policies.
During the 2020 elections, Ashanti Region in perspective, was able to pull 652,962 votes (approximately 26.5%) while the NPP won with a total of 1,793,629 votes (approximately 72.8%), which was a big win for the NPP.
Do you think the NPP would still win the 2024 elections over the NDC in Ashanti Region?
What do you also have to say about the comment "Disgrace Tour" as quoted by Chairman Wontumi?
