Accra High Court Dismisses James Gyakye Quayson's application, Case Adjourned to July 12

An application of the injuncted MP for Assin North, James Gyakye Quayson, has been dismissed by the Accra High Court. James urged the court to strike out three of the five criminal charges made against him. The presiding officer of the court, Justice Mary Yanzuh, held that the application lacked merit and was dismissed accordingly.

He is facing five counts of the deceit of a Public Officer, forgery of a passport or travel certificate, etc. James has been charged with criminal offenses for alleged dual nationality when contesting the 2020 Parliamentary elections.

He is also alleged to have made a false statement to the passport office that he did not hold a passport from another country when he applied for a Ghanaian Passport. This is clearly against the law.

James is also accused of false declaration to the Electoral Commission that he did not owe allegiance to any foreign country at the time he filed to contest as a Parliamentary Candidate.

The case has been postponed to the 12th of July, 2022 to start the trial.
