It sad how infrastructures and other important things gets abandoned by successors in our county, Ghana when the sitting president loses his seat to his opponents. That’s the exact case of The John Evans Atta Mills Presidential Library, a memorial and research facility in Cape Coast.
The said facility was completed and inaugurated about five years ago, when former president John Dramani Mahama was in power, it was a facility to honour former president, Prof John Evens Fiifi Atta Mills who died on 24 July 2012 at the 37 Military Hospital in Accra, three days after his 68th birthday.
The inauguration of the said library happened on July 24, 2016 to coincide with the fourth anniversary of the death of President Atta Mills.
According to the then sitting president, The Mills Memorial Library should be the presidential library befitting the life of the Late president as a renowned academic, sportsman, politician, President and peace-loving Ghanaian.
However, after John Mahama’s defeat in the 2016 presidential elections, the said Library have been remained closed.
Having said that, somewhere in 2019, the contractor who built the Library, Mr Kojo Mamphey Alleged that, he has not been paid fully for the work done and as a result they Key for the Library remains in her pocket.
Ah well! Take a look at the current photos of the Mills Library below
