The National Communications Director of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Sammy Gyamfi has mentioned that the continuous arrest of journalists by Police under the Akufo-Addo administration is politically motivated but they the NDC will stand by all those journalists.
Yesterday, February 10, 2022, journalist of Accra FM, Kwabena Bobie Ansah was arrested by the Police for publication of false news. He was arrested after his show, "The Citizens" in the evening. The producer of his show told the world that, Mr. Bobie was arrested in a rambo style by the Police and persons from National Security.
Sammy Gyamfi and his National Chairman Ofosu Ampofo went to visit Mr. Kwabena Bobie Ansah while he was in Police custody today, February 11, 2022. There, Sammy Gyamfi granted an interview to the media present and revealed that it's obvious the frequent arrest of journalists is politically motivated.
He added that the NDC will continue to stand by all those journalists the Akufo-Addo-led government is coming after.
" These are very sad times. We are all embarrassed as Ghanaians because this is a dent in our democracy. We are determined to stand by all the journalists who have been victims of these abuses."
"It is clear it is politically motivated. The Police are being used because somebody thinks they have power and is using that power against people who are critical of them." Sammy Gyamfi told journalists present while speaking about the arrest of Accra FM journalist, Kwabena Bobie Ansah.
