Hon. Collins Owusu Amankwah, is the Member of the Ghana Parliament for Manhyia North Constituency on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party (NPP). Born on August 21, 1980, he attended the famous Kumasi High School. He later gained admission to the University of Ghana where Hon. Collins had his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Sociology. He has since studied for and obtained an Executive Masters Degree, a Master of Arts in Conflict, Peace and Security from the reputable Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre (KAIPTC) in 2018. He worked as the General Manager for All Friends FM (94.5 MHz) in Kumasi before going into Parliament.
He was voted into Parliament for the first time in 2013. He was however defeated by his main contender with five votes difference during the party's primaries around June 2020. Hon. Collins Amankwah had sadly lost his seat with just five (5) votes, as in announcing the results, the Electoral Commission had rejected three out of the 554 votes and with 551 valid votes, the MP had 273 votes whereas the only contender, Akwasi Konadu secured 278 votes. His contender has gone on to win the seat, which is a safe seat for the party.
He was the Vice-Chairman for the parliamentary select committee on Defense and Interior, Mr Collins Randy Owusu Amankwah and just before the 2020 general elections, according to his intelligence gathered, he had alleged that, a plot by the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) was to create confusion and use violence to disrupt the upcoming December 7, 2020, presidential and parliamentary elections. He therefore asked the state security to be on guard and monitor the activities of the NDC, critics believes that, he played a part in the PR efforts that justified the security detail that characterized the election, as he has a solid background in journalism and media practice and these statements was a justifier.
He is a Christian and married with a daughter. He looks extremely blessed today, but we chanced on some old pictures of his and everyone will agree that, it is "if it had not been the lord on our side" testimony kind of life story, as indeed, the battle has always been the Lords!
