Based on the 2021 budget many have come to believe that the country is broke. The government however feels otherwise and is whipping support to that effect. However, the introduction of new taxes and the awareness created that some freebies will now be paid for is causing many to doubt the honesty of the Akufo-Addo government.
On ‘Critical Issues’ with Afia Pokua today, Saturday, March 20, 2021, she and her panelists looked at the real state of the economy. According to her even some close government officials have concluded that all is not well.
“Yesterday Gabby Otchere Darko has even acknowledged that Ghana is in a crisis. I am not the one saying it. This was said by Gabby who we all know is more than the vice president. He added that this was no time for people to spring up and say that they want to context as flagbearers. Akufo-Addo has just began his term and Ghanaians are discussing the budget.
She added her own views by saying that, “The NPP promised us many goodies. If they had told us that they would add more taxes, we would have known what to do in 2016. Yesterday I bought electricity prepaid and a lot of taxes were deducted. It is becoming problematic. What is the truss state of the nation”?
In your own opinion, what is the state of Ghana’s economy? Is the government being honest by saying all is well? Did Gabby expose his own party or he was simply being honest?
