The Electoral Commission of Ghana finally canceled the certificate of 17 political parties with no regional or national presence and therefore have flouted registrations.
The 17 political parties, including United Progressive Party led by Akwasi Addae, popularly known as Odike, were given a formal warning in early October to submit proof of why their names should remain on the list of political parties in Ghana under the Political Parties Act of 2000, Act 574. These political parties had a deadline to submit their proof by Thursday, October 20, 2022.
On the list of the political parties who have had their registration cancelled is the United Front Party, formally led by Odike and Nana Agyenim Boateng(Gyataba). Due to a misunderstanding, the former moved out to form his new party, UPP.
The National Reform Party(NRP) led by Goosie Tanoh and other former members of the NDC in the year 2000 found itself on the list.
A nationwide inspection exercise conducted by the Electoral Commission from May 16, 2022, to June 9, 2022, revealed that these 17 political parties had no offices at the National and Regional levels as required by Section 15(1) (Act 574).
Below is a list of the political parties with cancelled registrations;
