Rawlings Dead. Ghanaians express shock at this comment from the grandson of General Afrifa.

Ghanaians woke up to the sad news of the demise of the former president J. J. Rawlings on 12 November 2020.

A typical Ghanaian would express sadness and talk good to the dead. If for any reason we are not in good terms with a deceased, the worse sometimes we do is to keep mute. This is the case because of our traditional up bringing where we are taught to speak only good about the dead.

However, in this instance, for obvious reasons, some are glad and have taken to social media to express the same publicly. Being happy about the death of someone could be bad, but displaying such excitement publicly is something else.

Akwesi Afrifa Akoto is one of such people. He is believed to a grand some of Lieutenant General Akwasi Amankwaa Afrifa, the head of state of Ghana and leader of the military government in 1969 and then Chairman of the Presidential Commission between 1969 and 1970.

The history between Former President J.J. Rawlings and General Afrifa is well-known and well documented in the Ghanaian political history. What happened between these two men is only trite.

Nonetheless, little did readers on social media expected to see such expression of Joy from the grandson of one of the famous victims of the Rawlings era. Within the first hour of the unfortunate news, Akwesi Afrifa Akoto posted on his Facebook wall saying; he approved of this death.

While people were wondering what he could be insinuating, he made it clearer with another post. This time saying. “Oh... What a happy day”

He continued posting unabated expressing excitement with post after post.

He would not mind the bashing and reaction from people in his comment section. Afrifa Akoto is a bitter man, and we need to be in his shoes to know what exactly made him this excited.

For now, may the soul of the former leader find favour with his maker.
