Bawku Conflict Must Cease While Peace Prevail For Progress

Civil wars or Conflict often have significant security implications.

Meanwhile, peace is a citadel of productivity while several adages and happenings proves without peace there is little or no progress.

From Sierra Leone to Tajikistan and Indonesia’s Aceh Province, civil war has erupted in countries suffering from persistent poverty or sharp economic decline. These conflicts sap already depleted national resources and further cripple the fragile economies of some of the world’s poorest countries, while claiming millions of innocent lives.

In the case of Bawku Community, there is no difference as gradually conflict is eroding progress in the community.

The Ghana National Association of Teachers(GNAT) said 100 teachers have so far fled the Bawku Community due to the current conflict happening there.

It has claimed several lives with many residence set to have fled the border town.

In an interaction with Citi News, the General Secretary of GNAT, Thomas Musah said the teachers left because they cannot continue to work in an environment that threatens their lives.

He “As it stands now, 100 has left, they have been give the release to leave, the rest as well are pursuing their release to leave.

At the end of the day we must ensure peace within the community and if that is not done, certainly the teachers cannot be there.

“And when you look under the Labor Law, it is very difficult for somebody to be making reference, but it is important.

If a worker sees his or her life is in danger wherever he or she finds herself working reports to their immediate supervisor and leave.

“That’s the situation we are confronting now where the teachers have all gone to the education directorate asking for the release the place.

We have appealed to the security and the people in the area to ensure peace in the community so they teachers could stay and continue teaching, if that isn’t done 100 have left the rest could leave too leaving the children, particularly pupils in Bawku behind which could cause an increase in child labor, he concluded “

We believe Peace is the Only Way and Should be considered as such so as to create a suitable environment for inhabitants to thrive in their endeavors.
