Excuse me – NDC’s Fred Agbenyo fires NADMO Communications director on TV3’s ‘New Day’

In a little over 2 months Ghana will head to the polls to elect a president. Among some of the issues dominating the country’s media space are the EC registration process and the secessionist attacks in the country. It has been a back and forth among the communicators of the two major political parties in the country.

TV3 is marking its 23rd anniversary today Thursday October 1, 2020. On the Newspaper Review hosted by Johnny Hughes this morning there was a verbal confrontation between two communicators from the NDC and the NPP.

The topic under discussion related to the inability of the Audit Service to present a comprehensive report on how the country has dispensed its finances.

This issue has become thorny especially after the Minority in Parliament condemned the government and Audit Service for the delay. According to the Audit Service the lockdown during COVID-19 caused the delay. They indicated that they were unable to work during this period.

George Ayisi, the NPP communicator on the show and the Communications Director of NADMO maintained that he agrees with the explanation that the Audit Service was presenting. He noted that COVID prevented people from going out and fully going about their duties. He admitted that there has been a delay but added that it is possible.

Johnny Hughes however disagreed and wondered how 3 weeks’ lockdown in Accra, Kumasi and Kasoa could delay the Audit Services’ work. He was of the view that something was wrong.

Fred Agbenyo of the NDC Communications Team agreed with Johnny. He maintained that the Audit Service like other institutions should have written to Parliament to explain the delay instead of waiting for the Minority to raise questions.

“Excuse me, why didn’t they write to Parliament and explained it. It is because they have other motives. That was why they sent Domelovo away”, he fired.

Is the explanation from the Audit Service tenable? Does it sit well with you? Share your thoughts!
