NDC's Isaac Adongo supports a family in need

The pathetic story of a family – a widow and her two physically challenged daughters, who also struggling with autism, brought into limelight by an Upper East based reporter, is touching hearts and received public response.

The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament (MP) for Bolgatanta, Isaac Adongo, has made available an undisclosed amount of money and assorted items – bags of rice, edible oil, tinned tomato, washing soap and detergents in support of the family.

The going has been tough for Mrs. Janet Nso and her daughters over the past eight months – following the death of the son – the sole person, who was earning money to support the family. Mrs. Nso’s two daughters were born healthy but their situation suddenly changed when they fell sick.

They became physically challenged and autistic. The MP said the cash was to assist the widow to operate her petty business of frying yam and ‘koose’ – a local delicacy prepared from beans.

Mr. Adongo said he was not oblivious of the fact that the money and items were not going to last and pledged to make regular visits to the family.

He would from time to time provide them with a stipend and food items to make things a bit comfortable for the family.

Visibly touched by the plight of the mother and her daughters, Mr. Adongo said; “It is not every one who is fortunate in life but this also tells us how fortunate we are and we must thank God that we are given some attributes that allow us to do the work that we do and to go out for shelter, food and everything for ourselves. It is not because we are special, but it is because God just had mercy on us.”

The widow told the MP that one of her two daughters, who was physically fit, became physically challenged after she was struck by sudden illness at the age of 13. The other suffered the same fate, when she was 20 years.

A journalist in the Upper East Region, Stephen Chidoze, was the first to shine a spotlight on the family and the tough time they were going through and appealed for public support for the family.
