The Northern Regional representative of the council of state, Rtd Col. Mohammed Tahiru in collaboration with residents of Zung Community has commissioned an edifice to serve as permanent palace for chiefs in the kingdom.
Chief Col. Mohammed Tahiru said, construction of the palace was his initiative with complementary efforts from the residents who helped in raising the structures.
Speaking at the event, the council of state member stressed that; the building will serve as palace for chiefs who ascend the throne of the traditional community even after his demise.
He also indicated that, his predecessors in the past faced difficulty staying in the community after gaining enskinment especially those with roots outside the community, hence the need for the construction of the palace.
Zung is a community in the Zung kulaa Traditional area under Tamale North constituency. The community has been in existence for years without recognized traditional palace.
In a short Ceremony at the forecourt of the palace brought together Chiefs, imams, residents of Zung and people from all walks of life to witness the occasion.
Sheikh Abdul Mumin Dalhu, leader of the Shiiha community who doubles as Chief of Zongo in Tamale delivered a short sermon at the ceremony; admonishing the youth to desist from engaging in activities that has tendency to disturb the existing peace in the area.
Some residents who spoke to saganitvonline.com were excited about the new initiative; they noted that, the newly built palace will help in addressing the long aged problem of accommodation for chiefs in the area.
