Alban Bagbin Biography And All You Need To Know About The Current Speaker Of Parliament

Mr Bagbin who was the second deputy speaker in the previous parliament is the current speaker of the 8th parliament.He won the election with 138 votes,his only opponent Professor Aron Mike Oquaye got 136 votes. Born on September 24,1957 at sombo in the Upper Westest Region of Ghana.His parents were Mr Sunsunni Bagbin and Mrs Magaret Bagbin who were both peasant farmers.He is the fourth child out of nine.Alban Bagbin is married to Mrs Alice Adjuna of the United Nations Children Fund (UNICEF) Office in Ghana.He attended the Wa Secondary School and ended at the Tamale Secondary School where he earned his ordinary level and advance level certificate.He furthered his education at the University of Ghana.

Honourable Bagbin in an interview said he was been prepared to hold high positions right from his days at school when he was appointed chairman of the Disciplinary Committee of the Legon Hall at the University of Ghana.He was nominated to the office of the Minister for water resources, works and housing by former president Professor John Evans Atta Mills following a cabinet reshuffle in January 2010 and subsequently appointed Minister of health.As the current speaker of parliament he promises to submit himself to the will of the house.

Honourable Bagbin has held a number of positions in parliament since 1994.He was made chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Subsidiary Legislation and Vice Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Mines and Energy and Member of the Committee on Local Government and Rural Development in the first Parliament of the fourth Republic.
