Ten years after the death of Aliu Mahama, we have all gotten the reason why he couldn't become NPP's flagbearer let alone becoming President.
According to Kwadwo Mpianim, the main secret is that Aliu Mahama and his campaign team kept his Presidential ambition and agenda a secret from the then President Kufuor.
"When the rumour came that Aliu Mahama wanted to succeed Kufuor, I enquired from him ( Kufuor) if he has been officially notified or informed. Surprisingly, Despite all the preparations and underground campaign by Aliu Mahama, he had not informed President John Agyekum Kufuor" Kwadwo Mpianim boldly revealed
" It was at the latter part and very late when Aliu Mahama informed Kufuor that he wanted to succeed him" Kwadwo Mpianim added.
That is to say, the necessary coaching and Support from Kufuor couldn't come early. It was too late. He wished Aliu Mahama well but he lost the primaries and couldn't succeed. Sadly, he passed away in 2012 when the NPP was in opposition.
Kwadwo Mpianim added that it's Kufuor who went to handpick Aliu Mahama as his vice president. Due to that there is no way he would turn his back against him ( Aliu Mahama).
