Often regarded as the world bank of the ruling New Patriotic Party, the Ashante Region and the Elephant Party have had a very faithful relationship since the beginning of the Fourth Republic. It is almost a certainty that the New Patriotic Party will get the majority of its votes from the Region during any elections. The party is however accused of paying lip service to the development of the region anytime they are in government. Despite pledging their allegiance to the New Patriotic Party, there is a public opinion that major developmental projects in the region were undertaken by the opposition National Democratic Congress.
For instance, the iconic Kejetia Market that beautifies the business city of the Golden City was masterminded by the Umbrella party. The former president John Dramani Mahama, during the run-up to the 2020 General Elections, challenged the NPP to show what they have been able to achieve in the region that has been the backbone of their political success since 1992.
The president who is currently on a tour of the region visited some ongoing projects in the region. On the first two days of his tour, the president visited the Kumasi International Airport, Darko Farms, some projects undertaken in various second-cycle schools aimed at reducing congestion in senior high schools in the Ashante Region, Tanoso-Abuakwa and Ohwimase-Twedie roads.
But many Ghanaians, especially those from the Ashante Region who felt the president has not lived up to expectations, took to his comments section on Facebook where he posted the projects he has inspected by far. Some bemoaned the poor state of roads in their area as others lamented about unfavorable conditions.
These are reactions from a section of the public;
