It came as a shock to Ghanaians when Former President John Dramani Mahama selected Professor Jane Naana Opoku Agyeman as his running mate especially when Ghanaians were expecting a male personality who could challenge Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia. Professor Jane stood up to the task and was never intimidated at the intimidating words from communicators of the New Patriotic Party. Some teased Professor Jane and Mahama for thinking that her literature background could beat Bawumia's background.
The good news is that, the two worked hand in hand to the chagrin of critics and got over 6,000,000 votes from Ghanaians. During an final address of his thank you tour in Kempinski Hotel, John Dramani Mahama publicly thanked Jane Naana Opoku Agyeman and acknowledged her work as a running mate. It was an emotional sight.
Later, Professor Jane Naana Opoku Agyeman was called to the stage and she made everyone stand to thank John Dramani Mahama for giving a woman a chance to be a Vice President. She disclosed that her selection as a running mate to Mahama increased her proximity to Mahama unlike the times that she was working at the ministries. 
She disclosed that one thing that she realized from the first President was how gentlemanly he was. According to her, he was the finest of gentleman.
