It's been two weeks since the president's last address and it is an undeniable fact that,a lot has transpired in our quest to arrest the rapid spread of the deadly Corona virus pandemic.
Checks at the Ghana health service website reveals very damning situation at hand. Our active cases now stands at 8,216 new cases recorded are 718 and the total deaths now stands at 533.
This is not something pleasant at all and from every indication, our health facilities are being over stretched. More and more doctors and nurses and getting infected by the day and something urgently has to be done to curb the spread.
As a result of this new alarming figures a lot of Ghanaians are suggesting diverse measures to be taken in order to curb the spread. Kennedy Agyapong the MP for Assin Central the last spoke seriously about the severity of the situation at hand and called upon the president to close all schools and churches.
This is a call many have hailed as a step in the right direction because kids cannot be in school while our active cases keeps rising. Their adherence to the protocols are also nothing to write home about.
Kids will continue to be kids no matter how you explain the severity of the situation to them they will soon forget and engage in activities that can put their lives on the line of getting the covid.
However when the kids are home, parents can take adequate care of them. In fact it is not safe all in school as most of our schools don't observe social distancing and there are also no water and other hygiene facilities around.
The fear is that, our schools could soon become epicenters for the spread of the virus.
The president is likely to address the nation in the wake of the alarming levels with which the virus is ravaging the length and breadth of our beloved country and killing our dear ones.
The president is likely to touch on issues which when addressed could limit the spread of the virus.
Some of these issues include limiting the intake of the number of passengers in our public transports. The total ban on all social gatherings will remain intact and even toughened.
Schools will have to be closed at least from KG to primary three since they are the most vulnerable and it's difficult coercing them to adhere to the protocols.
Tougher measures will be taken against individuals who flout the adherence to the covid protocols.
All health workers will be assured of payment of all their motivation packages.
Fellow Ghanaians, these and other important issues are likely to be addressed by the president if he addresses the nation tonight.
The situation is gradually spilling out of control and we have to do everything possible in our capacity to ensure we and our loved ones are safe.
The disease is deadly and even after recovery, there are complications that could prove fatal so let us stay safe.
