If Free-SHS Motivated You To Vote For Nana Addo In 2016, Why Did His Percentage Reduce In 2020?

Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, right; launching of the Free-SHS policy with his Veep, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, left.

Even though Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo (H.E.) implemented, ahead of the election 2020, the Free-SHS policy, as well as, the Planting for Foods and Jobs, 1 District 1 Factory, etc.; which were believed to be among the sources of the resounding victory he had in the 2016 election, his percentage reduced from about 53% to about 51% in the 2016 and the 2020 elections respectively.

Nana Addo's 2016 percentage votes and total valid votes, left; John Mahama's 2016 percentage votes and total valid votes, right.

In fact, a careful consideration of this drastic reduction makes one wonder whether, at all, Nana Addo's the Free-SHS campaign promise was the reason for his 2016 landslide victory.

Indeed, some of us expected Nana Addo's percentage of votes from 2016 to rather shoot up to about 56% or even 58%; since, Nana brilliantly and expeditiously implemented Free-SHS, which he promised consistently from 2008, few months after he assumed office as President of the Republic of Ghana.

How some Ghanaians celebrated the implementation of the Free-SHS policy.

Again, it was the expectation of many that the Free-SHS policy, which appears to be thus far, among the few policies which is benefited my almost every household in Ghana could have made Nana Addo's victory an infectious one.

Nana Addo's percentage votes in 2016, left; Nana Addo's percentage votes in 2020, right.

However, it turned out to be the opposite; hence it begs the question, what at all accounted for Nana Addo's resounding victory in the 2016 general elections?
