Kwesi Rashid silences Ato Forson in a debate on who wins the Ajumako Enyan Essiam constituency seat.

It is an election year and the political atmosphere is getting thick. Only 59 days separate Ghanaians from the polls. As usual the National Democratic Congress and the New Patriotic Party are expected to go head to head in the battle for the keys to the Jubilee House. The election also sees a sitting president coming up against an ex-president.

Yesterday the team from Joy FM which includes Emefa Apawu, Kojo Yankson, Joseph Ackah Blay, Elton Brobbey and Winston Amoah did a review on the Ajumako-Enyan-Essiam constituency.

The area is a typical swing constituency. The current member of Parliament is Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson. He comes up against Dr. Kwesi Etuaful Rashid. This will be the fourth time that Ato Forson will be contesting for that seat while it is a first for Dr. Rashid.

The Battleground team sought to engage the 2 parliamentary candidates in a debate over who has the better track record. It can be recalled that earlier on, the Joy FM Battleground team had granted an interview to Ato Forson. According to Ato Forson he has stood against different candidates from the New Patriotic party and he has defeated them all. He laughed at the thought of Dr. Rashid pulling a surprise.

“Among all of them he is the lightest. The lightest of all the weights. And he will see his smoothness level pretty soon. The bragging must end” Ato Forson fired.

Yesterday on the Battleground programme Ato Forson failed to show up. Whereas Dr. Rashid was connected by phone, Ato Forson was said to be engaged in a campaign somewhere and thus couldn’t make it. To make it balanced, his interview with Joy FM was replayed.

In reaction Dr. Rashid said that he has contested 4 different elections in different sectors and has won all 4. He admitted that he is the underdog and he is happy that he is being underrated. He said in a year he has turned the constituency around and will pull a surprise on his rival contestant.

Perhaps one of the imposing statements he made was that Ato Forson refers to him as a light weight and yet he is unavailable for a debate just because he is campaigning. He queried why Ato Forson will campaign against a light weight. He maintained that change was coming and jabbed the current member of parliament for his unfulfilled promises.

Is Ato Forson campaigning deep into the evening because he fears losing? Does Dr. Rashid pose a threat to Ato Forson? Who in your expectation is likely to win? Who wins in the battle of PhD holders? Dr. Ato Forson or Dr. Rashid? Share your thoughts!
