In Ghana here when one mentions the name 'Ashanti' the first thing that comes to mind is pride. Pride in the positive sense because a typical Ashanti will never bow to their contenders.
This very nature is something that is borne out from the beginning. While typical Ashantis are very friendly, if you competite them in every aspect of life, they will strive to dominate over you. Be it in the business, Education, etc.
This pride by the Ashantis put the New Patriotic Party in a very tough situation right now as they prepare to elect a new flagbearer to man the affairs of the party in 2024. The bid has always been between Dr Mahamadu Bawumia and Alan Kwadwo kyeremanten.
Alan Kwadwo Kyeremanteng has remained a house hold name in Ghana's politics, competing with President Akufo Addo in primaries and losing makes him one of the popular personalities in the New Patriotic Party. Coming from a typical Ashanti Region, he has remained the main bid for the next primaries as the Ashantis will never hesitate to throw their support for him.
As Ashantis will try to fight for their pride, they will overlook Dr Mahamadu Bawumia's competency and loyalty to the New Patriotic Party and throw their support for their own. Ashanti Region being one of the key regions that gives NPP massive votes, they can go extra mile to throw their support their own to beat the NDC candidate who will come in 2024.
So in conclusion, it will be a tough deciding between Bawumia and Alan Kwadwo kyeremanteng but upon Bawumia's competency and loyalty, should Ashantis put their pride aside and vote for Bawumia?.
