The President – Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo blessed this brief event with a message full of motivation, hope and spirit of patriotism. He admitted the toll the novel coronavirus had on the nation and the entire globe but remained resolute and confirmed Ghana is yet to witness more growth and development.
He promised that a year from now, Ghana will become the beacon of light for Africa and the fastest rising economy, Ghana will produce more and become more sufficient, Ghana will absorb the over 1000 unemployed youths and Ghana will provide education for all citizens of school-going ages.
All these will be experienced in a year from now.
This good news has come to excite many Ghanaians. 64yrs from now and Ghana is still not where Kwame Nkrumah envisaged for the nation as at the time, he was seeking independence for Gold Coast, now Ghana.
Ghana has suffered unemployment, poor education, poor trade negotiations and corruption thanks to poor leadership. But the presence of His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has brought an amount of relief on Ghanaians.
Today, there is NABCO, free Senior High School, agricultural advancement, good health and money distributed to Ghanaian businesses for suffering from coronavirus.
Behind this background, there is a strong hope that the President will achieve his promises for the coming year as promised in his “speech to the nation” on Independence Day.
Ghana won independence from the colonial masters – the British on March 6th 1957. The story of our growth has been an ill one after Kwame Nkrumah was overthrown on 24th February 1966.
Since then, there have been series of coup and murders until the 4th Republic was established with the late Ft. Lt. Jerry John Rawlings leading it.
Whatever has happened should be left in the past. Let us, together as a nation, drive this nation to the promised land and live peacefully even more.
