The transformational changes happening in Accra nowadays didn’t occur by accident. Indeed, Accra has always had leaders but none of them led a massive charge to make Accra clean like Hon. Henry Quartey. The gentle giant, who is even taller than former president John Agyekum Kufuor is making taller moves and getting recognition for that.
The #MakingAccraClean agenda has been the paramount agenda of incumbent President Akuffo-Addo, and I dare say he has put it in the wrong hands. Together with chiefs, police and security, the Regional Minister of Greater Accra- Henry Quartey is leading the charge in making Accra the cleanest city in Africa.
The Divisional Chief of Sempe Stool in Ga Manshie of the Greater Accra Region has even joined the charge and further admonished residents leaving in the various communities in the Ga State to keep their surroundings clean.
Since his appointment, Hon. Quartey has led many exercises in reducing traffic at Medina-Adenta traffic station, clean-up exercises, evacuation of encroachers and pulling down unauthorized erections to ease traffic congestion in the city.
Indeed, more than 40 houses and structures at the Green Belt site were demolished by the Ga South Municipality just like structures on waterways, greenbelts and wetlands at Tema.
He gets exasperated when people build in waterways which leads to flooding. He will order for the demolition of the building right there and then. The man is strict and means business. He is not your regular TV communication type of minister. He is always busy working on the ground with his nose mask on.
He reduced the traffic on the Accra Kumasi motorway by fixing some irregular traffics along the stretch of road. He also went ahead to sack all the bread sellers who were trading in the middle of the road. It was too risky.
His hard work is transforming Accra and making people naturally keep their vicinities clean before he stages his presence, which could lead to significant demolitions.
