According to Alhassan Suhuyini MP, the NPP spent 10,000,000GHC to battle Galamsey.

The Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources (MLNR) has denied allegations made by Alhassan Suhuyini, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament (MP) for Tamale North, that the ministry spent GH10 million on conferences related to the fight against illegal mining, also known as galamsey.



The MLNR's Public Relations Unit released a statement denying the charges, calling them "false and without factual substance."

The Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources (MLNR) has denied allegations made by Alhassan Suhuyini, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament (MP) for Tamale North, that the ministry spent GH10 million on conferences related to the fight against illegal mining, also known as galamsey.

The MLNR's Public Relations Unit released a statement denying the charges, calling them "false and without factual substance."

"As a sensible means of managing the public purse, the ministry established a plan to bring the regions together and hold the discussions on a zonal basis." As a result, two regional conversations were convened, one in Kumasi for the forest zone and the other in Tamale for the savannah zone.


In addition to the discussions, the ministry conducted a working visit to all sixteen (16) regions of the nation, engaging diverse stakeholders to gather assistance for the battle against illicit mining, according to the statement.


The Council of State, the National House of Chiefs, the Regional Houses of Chiefs, Regional Ministers, Regional Security Councils, the Ghana Chamber of Mines, the Ghana National Association of Small Scale Miners (GNASSM), and civil society organizations were among the stakeholders engaged by the ministry, according to the statement the mining industry and miners.

"The ministry paid for all of these meetings." "The ministry also granted some cash for Regional Security Councils to aid in the battle against galamsey," the statement continued.

Aside from the talks, the statement added that the MLNR, in collaboration with GNASSM, launched a Small-Scale Miners Award Scheme to encourage small-scale miners to mine responsibly and ecologically friendly.
