E-levy; NDC not fighting for Ghanaians, they fear Mahama may loss 2024 if the levy is passed-NPP MP

Honorable Habib Iddrisu, the Majority Chief Whip and Member of Parliament for the Tolon Constituency has disclosed that the opposition National Democratic Congress is frightened they will not come to power if the proposed E-levy is passed. According to the lawmaker, the minority caucus in Parliament has taken an entrenched position on the Electronic Transactions Levy because they fear it will generate revenue for the government to embark on, among other projects, Agenda 111 and building infrastructure to enhance the Free Senior High School policy.

The Tolon-legislator maintained that, the assertion by the NDC that they are fighting for the ordinary Ghanaian is mere propaganda and that the motive behind their strong resolve to kick against the E-levy is the fear that John Dramani Mahama may not win power if it is successfully passed.

Honorable Habib Iddrisu who was speaking on the MP Express Show on Joy FM, today January 24 said "... When I hear people say that the NDC is fighting for Ghanaians, that is not the reason why they fighting, they ( the NDC) are frightened. They are finding it difficult for the realization that government will be able to raise about GHS 7 billion out of the E-levy because if the government is successful on the E-levy, the government will be able to fund a lot of projects; one district one hospital, thus agenda 111, Free SHS which is benefitting every Ghanaian. ... For that matter John Dramani might not be able to come to power".

Honorable Habib Iddrisu further indicated that the majority caucus is ever ready to negotiate with the NDC MPs if they shift from their original position of zero-tolerance of E-levy. However, he disclosed that, if the minority stick to their guns, the majority shall do everything within the laws to "peacefully" and "amicably" pass the E-levy.

Parliament comes back from recess tomorrow and Ghanaians shall keenly follow the proceedings in the house given what transpired in the house before their Christmas break.
