The opposition National Democratic Development (NDC) has directed all its members across the country to register for the Ghana Card. This was contained in a statement issued yesterday under the signature of the deputy General Secretary Peter Boama Otukonor.
"FEC directs that all Regional Chairmen, should as a matter of urgency ensure that appropriate mechanism are put in place for our members in all districts to register for the card. This is extremely important since the card has become sine qua non for many transactions in the country", parts of the letter reads.
It is not clear why the NDC issued the directive. However, one thing is clear and that is the Electoral Commission of Ghana recently issued notice that the Ghana Card will be the sole document of identity in next voter registration. This statement caused some disagreement. However, it looks like the EC wilt stick to it despite the oppositions.
The NDC does not want to lose out hence the directive to its members.
Do you believe this is the reason or there could be a different reason for this directive? Take to the comments section to express yourself.
