The minority chief whip said that he did not register for the Ghana card and he does not intend applying for one.
This revelation was made by the Asawasi member of Parliament as he was questioned on the constitutional instrument laid before Parliament by the Electoral commission seeking to use the Ghana card and the Ghana passport as the only documents of proof of one's citizenship. Hon Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak said they (minority) would resist the constitutional instrument by every legal means.
The Electoral Commission is at loggerheads with the National Democratic Congress over the compilation of a new voter register. The Electoral Commission is seeking among other things to exclude the current voter ID card as a proof of citizenship because the commission believes that the register is not credible.
The NDC have sent issue to the the Supreme Court for clarification. The bench has directed the electoral commission to back it's exclusion of the current voter ID legally.
