Ghana has under its fourth republic had three successive Electoral Commissioners.
Each of them have come to "pay their dues" towards the development of the country and this article highlights their individual contributions.
1. Dr. Kwadwo Afari Gyan
Born: 18th June, 1945
Alumnus of: Adisadel College
University of Ghana
University of California
Years in office: 1993 to 2015
Dr. Afari Gyan was the first Electoral Commissioner of the fourth republic
He conducted the following elections;
So far, he is the longest serving commissioner and conducted four presidential and parliamentary elections, and also District Assembly elections.
He has conducted the highest number of elections among the three commissioners under the fourth republic.
2. Madam Charlotte Osei
Born: 1st February, 1969
Alumnus of: Ghana National College
University of Ghana
Years in office: 2015 to 2018
She was the second Electoral Commissioner and conducted the 2016 Presidential and Parliamentary elections.
3. Madam Jean Mensah
Alumnus of: St Mary's Senior High School
. University of Ghana
Years in office: 2018 to date
Madam Mensah is the third and current Electoral Commissioner under the fourth republic.
She conducted the 2020 general elections.
