Good Evening Ghana is one of the most watched political programme in Ghana. Ghanaians aren’t just enthused about the touchscreen analysis of the show, but the host Paul Adom Otchere also creates controversy on the show. Paul, a pro NPP supporter intelligently analysis data and curves it to favor his party. Though many are against his pro government tendencies, his show is still one of the most popular in Ghana.
On the show yesterday, Paul insisted that Ghanaians made a mistake with the 2008 elections. According to him Ghana was on track and on the path to progress until it was truncated with an election. He insisted that the Kufuor administration was fantastic and left Ghana in a much better state. According to Paul, Ghanaians were expected to vote into office another NPP so the progress work is carried but this didn’t happen as Akufo-Addo lost the 2008 and 2012 elections to the NDC. First was the loss to Atta Mills in 2008 and then to John Mahama in 2012.
Paul insisted that that the elections changed Ghana’s history, noted that Ghanaians are paying for this and prayed that heavy conditions will not set in for Ghanaians for choosing to vote the NDC into power. He called on the current and upcoming generation to compare the progress made under Kufuor and how the country has turned out to be now.
“I have always held that view and I made that public in January 2009. I have said that so many times that the 2008 vote was wrong that hopefully Ghanaians will not pay for that. Posterity should decide if Ghanaians are paying for it. Not because it is a political view but because of where the country was and how it could have continued with what President Kufuor doing and how we decided to go to another political party” Paul said.
Interestingly, Paul forgets that currently, the country is being swallowed by financial crises under the leadership of President Akufo-Addo, the same person he felt Ghanaians should have voted for in 2008. Would Akufo-Addo have continued with the progress made by Kufuor? Did the NDC turn back the hands of progress? Time will tell.
