John Dramani Mahama has said he does not have any foreign account in any country. Speaking on Cape FM ( today, October 15), the former president debunked claims that he has a Swiss account. John Dramani Mahama said this following allegations leveled against him while he was the President that, he and his wife, Lordina Mahama, diverted a $100 million World Bank loan meant for the country into their Swiss account. According to him, a World Bank loan is only given to the country through the Bank of Ghana.
He further explained that it is far-fetched for any president to take such an amount of money from the Bank of Ghana without any tangible reason. He, therefore, stated that the allegation was mere propaganda from the then opposition New Patriotic Party. He mentioned he only has accounts in ADB, Trust Bank, and one other bank in Ghana.
Talking about the allegations that he has a hotel in Dubai, John Dramani Mahama said it was a false story. The former president dares any member of the ruling New Patriotic Party who thinks they have evidence to that effect, to produce it so that the said hotel could be taken back to the country.
He also touched on the issue of the family and friends government. John Dramani Mahama pointed out that, during his tenure, the members of the New Patriotic Party accused him of running a family and friends government despite having just one family member of his in his government. But according to him, the number of Akuffo Addo family members in his government today speaks for itself.
John Dramani Mahama further maintained that the assertion by the Electoral Commission that the 2020 General Elections is the best in the history of the country is false. He said it amounts to the EC being a judge in its court. He added that he will give the EC an F for their performance in the elections.
