They say good men die early. One of the best statesman and politician who can be described as a competent minister from both sides of the political divide is non other than the man Kojo Baah Wiredu. He was the member of Parliament for the Asante Akim North Constituency.

Honourable Kwadwo Baah-Wiredu, a Chartered Accountant and Politician died in office whilst serving as Ghana’s Minister for Finance and Economic Planning under H.E President John Agyekum-Kuffuor.

He had, as he would say a sort of a hard scrabble life; but made it through Kumase High School (KUHISS); Prempeh; and Legon with flying colours. His life experience provided moral anchors for his outlook on everything.

He worked with Ghana Airways and the Volta river authority occupying various positions. He also worked as finance manager of Ananse systems and senior consultant on Computer systems.

He died 13 years ago. He was honored and elsewhere memorials were held in his honor. Our former presidents Rawlings and Kufuor eulogized him. His colleagues in Parliament endlessly extolled him. As did all of them.

He was described as the epitome of the incorruptible one. His lifestyle was described as patient; respectful; not showy; with contempt for politicians deemed corrupt.

Kojo Baah Wiredu on September 24th 2008, died unexpectedly at a hospital in South Africa where he was receiving treatment for an illness.

He dedicated to the life and work of the finance ministry. But his reputation remains solid. One day a son will rise; and people will remember what the father bequeathed.
