Census Exercise Is A Duplication Of Data And Waste Of Money- Odike Jabs Akufo Addo

The founder and leader of United Progressive Party, UPP, Mr. Akwasi Addae otherwise known as Odike has described the ongoing population and housing census as duplication of data and waste of money. He, therefore, took a swipe at President Akufo Addo for wasting taxpayers money on what he called duplicated exercise.

He noted that the exercise did not make sense since the New Patriotic Party, NPP, government had already spent huge sums of taxpayers money on Ghana Card and National Digital Property Addressing System, also known as the Ghana Post GPS.

" NPP government gave Professor Ken Attafuah of NIA 290 million dollars to spend on national ID cards. And another huge sums of money was also given to the vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia for National Digital Property Addressing System."

" I quite remember Hon. Kennedy Agyapong insisted that the money Professor Ken Attafuah requested to spend on the Ghana card was too much and that he could use 100 million dollars to get the Ghana Card done."

Mr. Akwasi Addae made this statement when he was speaking on OTEC Fm in Kumasi.

He insisted that Ghana should have Central database where all the institutions in the country, including, National Health Insurance, Electoral Commission, Statistical service among others would draw their data from it.

"So that for instance if you found yourself in somewhere in Togo, and it happens that you collapsed, and you're unable to speak when the data is complete, they would place your thumbs on the machine for verification. So, that it would show your house.

" So, what the Nana Akufo Addo led government is doing is a duplication of work and wasting of money. It doesn't make any sense because every nation has stopped using manual head counting.

"" Have you heard United States government announcing to count people through manual head counting before." he argued

He noted that the government was still living in the past as it had failed to properly utilize the digitization process to count people just like the developed countries, like the United States.

" We are living with a technological driven economy, but NPP Government is still doing thing just like in the days of Jesus Christ, where the government used manual head counting to do their Census."

He stressed that any country which failed to commit resources to effective utilization of digitization would be left in the woods.
