Late last night news came out that Rebecca Akufo-Addo the First Lady has declined proposals to pay her monthly salaries. There has been so much uproar immediately news broke that she and the Second Lady will be put on salaries. The First Lady has refused the proposed salaries and has gone ahead to say that she is ready to pay close to GHS900,000 cedis of monies paid to her since her husband.
The has been massive reactions after the news broke that Rebecca Akufo-Addo has rejected the salaries. Today, Tuesday, July 13, 2021 on TV3’s ‘New Day’, Murtala Mohammed, MP for Tamale Central said there was no need to start praising the First Lady because this was just a political gimmick.
“It is much ado about nothing. If the First Lady wants us to believe that she is so principled and she cares so much about this country, then she needs to return the money with interest. It was illegitimate. She is never one of the Article 71 holders. It is understandable that she says she wont take any monies henceforth.
She can’t get any credit for what she has done. It’s like a thief stole your item and you demanded the thing back and the thief returns it after using it and now the thief says clap for me, I have returned the item. This is just a charade from her” Murtala Mohammed explained.
She called on the First Lady to pay off all the money with interest before the country will take her serious and clap for them. He explained that if the First Lady wants to appear principled she shouldn’t have taken the monies at all because it has tarnished her image and the best way will be to pay all monies amounting to about 900,000 cedis with interest.
